Abstract

Coronary heart disease CHD) is the largest single cause of death in the UK, accounting for almost 198 000 deaths each year (British Heart Foundation [BHF], 2008). Within the UK, CHD is the single biggest cause of premature death among the female population. In 2006 alone, 22% of premature deaths in women were from CHD, and every year around one in seven women will die from the disease (BHF, 2008).
